How to Get More Views on TikTok

TikTok is arguably the most powerful discovery tool for aspiring creators today.

Both TikTok’s growth as a platform and its dual role as a bridge between social and search make it an impeccable place to start or expand your community.

However, many creators struggle to gain that initial traction, with a common complaint being “200-view jail”. Regardless of whether this jail is fact or fiction, one thing is for certain – newer TikTok creators are struggling to gain traction. Let’s dive in.

What Counts as a View on TikTok

TikTok defines a view simply: when someone watches your video, no matter the length of time, it is counted as a view. If that person then rewatches or restarts the same video, that will also count as a view.

This matters for analytics for a few reasons, but it’s mainly a good indicator of if your video is getting pushed out into the world. A higher view count with a good rewatch percentage means people were shown your video, and they loved it so much that they stayed till the end and then some.

How to Boost Views on TikTok

If you want to get more views on TikTok organically, you’re going to need to focus on improving your content in a way that both your potential audience and the TikTok algorithm can understand.

What does that entail? We’ve detailed five things that should be on your list to help push your videos more.

1. Optimize for the FYP

The For You Page algorithm remains largely a mystery, but we know a few things that are certain to influence your video’s push potential. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Including keywords in your caption – choose 1-2 keywords to focus on, and build your caption around them

  • On-screen text – TikTok’s algorithm reads your screen, so including your keyword in the video itself may help increase reach

  • Post timing – Posting at the best possible time for your niche’s audience can help get your video seen faster and get pushed further. Find the best time for your audience by clicking here.

2. Engage with your Niche

What many creators often overlook is making a community management strategy. Part of this strategy should encompass meaningfully interacting with your community as much as possible, whether that’s commenting back, liking replies, or even reposting.

Don’t solely limit community management to your own content sphere, however. Creators old and new alike will find plenty of success by exploring other creators in your field and leaving meaningful interactions on their posts.

Obviously, don’t spam “hey your video is cool u should come check my page out” but post actual, genuinely meaningful comments. Who knows, they may want to collab with you one day!

3. Trend Jumping

One thing TikTok excels at compared to other social media platforms is trends.

Trends form rapidly on TikTok and are relatively easy for any creator to jump on. It’s an excellent opportunity to get creative in a way that people are already proven to enjoy, and it’s a fantastic way to get pushed further out for more views.

During your browsing doom-scroll on TikTok (which, face it, we all do), save any videos you find yourself enjoying by bookmarking them or saving them directly to your camera roll. Then, see if you can put your own spin on it! More often than not, this is how trending formats come to fruition.

If you want to hop on an existing trend, that works great as well! Save the trending sound or format and brainstorm video ideas around it.

4. Using Hashtags Correctly

The days of hashtag-spamming #fyp or #viral are over.

TikTok just recently implemented a five-hashtag limit, forcing you to get specific and get creative with your hashtag choices.

We recommend you take the 1-2 keywords you picked out earlier and locate hashtags that include that keyword. If the keywords you picked are relevant enough to your niche, there will be hashtags surrounding them. If there aren’t any, you may want to rethink your choice of keywords.

For example, if my video is about cooking mozzarella sticks, my keyword may be cooking or mozzarella stick tutorial. From there, I can deduce that my hashtags might be #cooking, #cookingtutorial, #cookingtipsandtricks, or such.

5. Post Original Content Consistently

If you aren’t already trying to make your content entertaining, you’re doing it wrong.

When you’re creating a video, ask yourself: Is this something I would share with a friend? If you wouldn’t share your own video, you’ve got some work left to do.

What if I’m Still Not Getting Views?

Despite everything we just listed, increasing your views on TikTok is simply a matter of time.

Creating consistent quality posts regularly on TikTok will show the algorithm what to expect from you every time you publish a video. It makes it so the FYP gets your video sooner and pushes out more accurately. You must give it enough time and videos.

If you’re still dealing with low views on TikTok, you may have to rinse and repeat the steps we detailed above. By constantly improving one thing every time you create a video, you ultimately improve your skills as a professional content creator.

Frequently Asked Questions about TikTok Views

How long does it take to get more views on TikTok?

It varies depending on a ton of factors. Some content goes viral within just a few hours, while others might not gain traction for a month. Ultimately, the key to more views is patience and consistency.

Do hashtags really matter for views?

Yes, but only if you use them correctly! Using 3-5 highly targeted hashtags helps TikTok categorize your video and push it out more easily. Don’t waste one of your five hashtag limit on #fyp – it doesn’t work like you think it does.

Why are my views suddenly dropping?

This can happen due to a multitude of reasons – algorithm updates, repetitive content posting, or even lower engagement. We recommend you analyze what’s worked for you in the past, and try to implement bits and pieces of it going forward (post time, caption style, video length, etc.).

Do trending sounds guarantee more views?

Using a trending sound doesn’t guarantee anything, but they absolutely help. Using trending audio in a way that’s relevant to both the content you’re producing and the niche you’re producing it for increases the chance of discoverability.
